Your GP follows the Conventional Medicine model - i.e. they address and manage symptoms primarily with pharmaceuticals. In contrast, the Viatitute Nutrition & Lifestyle Brain Health MOT follows the Functional Medicine model. Functional Medicine uses targeted nutrition and lifestyle interventions to address the underlying issues that might - or already have - lead to disease.
The reasons why the Functional Medicine approach has not replaced the Conventional Medicine model - despite the incredibly encouraging results especially in the field of
chronic health conditions including Alzheimer’s Disease
- are multi-factorial:
On the one hand the Functional Medicine approach is much more time-intense and therefore more expensive than the Conventional approach and would over-burden health care systems. Also, most medical professionals are entirely Conventionally trained and unfamiliar with the Functional approach - which is why realistically Functional care could not be delivered at scale at this point in time.
On the other hand, the wider population is still expecting modern medical treatment to be Conventional (i.e. pharmaceutical - following the 'A-Pill-for-An-Ill Approach') and is unlikely to understand or agree with the Functional Medicine approach, which would require the patient to take some interest in and responsibility for their own health.
And finally, the great financial interests in the Conventional Medicine model are very unlikely to allow a large scale shift towards the Functional Medicine model any time soon.
